In his 105th European Cup race, Walder set the best time of 1.11,30:25 minutes. The 0,16-year-old from Fresach in Carinthia, who was mainly competing in the World Cup this year, relegated the Swiss Gian Luca Barandun to second place (+0,21) and Johannes Kröll (also Austria) to third place in his fourth European Cup victory ( +13). Walder climbed onto the podium in the European Cup for the 16th time. He achieved his best result in the World Cup at the end of January in the downhill race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where he took XNUMXth place.

“I'm getting better and better with the slopes in Reinswald. In the first few years I had difficulty getting into the top 30 here. Since I finished third in the downhill last year, the button has opened. Now I'm concentrating on the next World Cup appearances. Tomorrow (Tuesday, editor’s note) I’m flying to Kvitfjell,” said Walder after the award ceremony.

The dethroned downhill world champion Patrick Küng also made it into the top ten. The Swiss, who won gold in Vail in 2015 and finished fourth at the home World Championships in St. Moritz a week ago, ended up eighth in the Super-G in Reinswald.

The best “Azzurro” was Emanuele Buzzi, who took tenth place, 0,64 seconds behind. However, the best result from a South Tyrolean perspective was achieved by Werner Heel (Walten), who came in 20th (+1,12). “I'm not happy, I messed up a lot, especially in the upper part of the track. Now I’m off to Kvitfjell, where I want to give it my all in the World Cup,” said the 34-year-old from Passiria.

The Super-G in Reinswald was the last in the 2016/17 European Cup season. That's why the winners in the discipline rankings were also awarded in Sarntal. Here the Swiss Gilles Roulin prevailed with 357 points ahead of the Austrian Niklas Köck (337) and Barandun (287).

The program in the Sarnen ski area will continue on Tuesday with downhill training for the men, while the women will take part in the Super-G on Wednesday, starting at 10 a.m.
