What does Patrick Staudacher actually do?

“The last two seasons didn't go the way I had imagined and in the end I didn't enjoy it anymore,” said Staudacher, explaining his resignation, which he announced on March 21, 2012. He doesn’t miss active racing: “I don’t miss the competitions at all. “But that also gives me confirmation that I made the right decision back then,” said the South Tyrolean. Because he didn’t turn his back on skiing completely anyway. “I am now the coach of the Carabinieri sports group in Val Gardena. “I really like the work because I can pass on my experiences to other skiers,” says “Staudi”.

The most moving moment in his sporting career? “There have been many beautiful moments in my career, not just from a sporting perspective. Of course, I will remember the World Cup title in 2007, as well as the moment when I made it to the podium in front of the home fans at the race in Val Gardena (third place in December 2009, ret),” remembers Patrick Staudacher, who remembers was surprisingly crowned Super-G world champion at the international title fights in Aare, Sweden, six years ago. Two years later in Val d'Isere he took part in the world title fights again, but was unable to have a say in the fight for the medals.

In addition to the two appearances at the World Championships in Aare and Val d'Isère, the enthusiastic hobby musician can also boast three participations in the Olympic Games. The best result appears to be two seventh places, which he achieved in the super combined in Salt Lake City in 2002 and achieved eight years later in the super-G in Vancouver.

The love for music

In addition to skiing, Pflerscher always had a second great passion, namely music. “Music has always been my hobby, now I have more time for it. I play in a six-piece band called Stodlgang. We have two girls who sing really well, lots of performances and it’s a lot of fun,” says the former ski racer enthusiastically.

How does he see the South Tyroleans' chances at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi? “At sporting highlights such as the Olympic Games or the World Cup, the form of each individual athlete on the day is crucial. I see Dominik Paris as strong, but basically any of the local athletes can be trusted to present themselves in their best possible form on this special day. “It’s always better if you don’t come to major events as a favorite, but rather as an outsider,” Staudacher concluded.
