World Cup in Val Gardena and Alta Badia: Now all that's missing is the snow - VIDEO

Val Gardena is hosting two speed races on December 14th and 15th. A Super-G and a downhill race are on the program on the fast and attractive Saslong. The start takes place at 12.15 p.m. on both days. Training runs will take place on Wednesday and Thursday at the same time, while the first team captains meeting will be held on Tuesday 11th December at 20pm. The prize money for the two World Cup races is around 160.000 euros. Val Gardena has hosted a total of 1969 international women's and men's races since 72.

“We still have four cold nights left”

“Our piste workers are already working constantly to ensure the best possible conditions,” says Stefania Demetz, the managing director of World Cup Val Gardena. Race director Rainer Senoner agrees: “The weather forecasts for the race weekend are not yet available, but we are very confident as the upper part of the route is already in very good condition."

The situation in Alta Badia is similar. “We don't have snow on the entire slope yet, but we have the advantage of having a much shorter race track than Val Gardena. Therefore there shouldn't be any problems. We still need four cold nights to cover the entire slope with snow and make it suitable for racing," explains Andy Varallo from the organizing committee in Alta Badia.

The countdown for the men's giant slalom on the Gran Risa, probably the most spectacular of all RTL slopes in the Ski World Cup, has begun. The 16th edition of the Alpine Ski World Cup races will take place there on Sunday, December 27th. In addition to this competition, Alta Badia is also preparing to host two FIS competitions on the Bamby2 slope on Piz La Ila, the training slope for the national teams taking part in the World Cup races. The two slalom events for women and men are planned for the days after the giant slalom.

Under the leadership of Marcello Varallo, the organizing committee is already working around the clock to plan the event, which is expected to once again attract attention around the world. In total, more than 300 journalists and 40 television teams report on the three World Cup races in South Tyrol. The mark of 200 million television viewers worldwide has now been exceeded.
