It was the fourth European Cup victory for the 24-year-old from North Tyrol, who has already taken part in two World Championships and been on the podium twice in the World Cup. “At the finish I almost couldn’t believe it when the number one was on the scoreboard. It wasn't an easy season for me this year and that's why I'm overwhelmed. I've known all season that I'm very fast in all disciplines. Unfortunately, I was never able to implement it in the race. In the World Cup I had difficulty qualifying for the top 30. That’s why this victory here is really good and is a balm for the soul,” said Franziska Gritsch. However, her teammate Vanessa Nussbaumer from Vorarlberg climbed onto the podium for the first time, finishing third, losing 1,03 seconds to Gritsch. No top ten place for the Azzurre The home race did not go as planned for the Italian racers, who were unable to place any athlete among the fastest ten. As the best Azzurra, Carlotta Da Canal ended up in eleventh place, celebrating her best European Cup result. Just behind, Karoline Pichler from Petersberg came in 14th as the best South Tyrolean. “I had a very difficult time today changing from the World Cup to the European Cup. The slopes themselves are simply icier in the World Cup and the gate distance is also a little different. But I'm also annoyed by a tactical mistake in a wave and that I didn't prepare better for the race. The slope itself was good after the snowfall. “Tomorrow (Friday, editor’s note) I will attack again,” promised the woman from Eggental, who has won three races in the European Cup so far in her career. The new leader in the Super-G classification of the European Cup is Jasmina Suter after the first of two races in Sarntal. The Swiss is in the lead with 186 points, followed by the two Austrians Christina Ager (165) and Elisabeth Reisinger (160). She will certainly do everything in her power to defend the yellow leader jersey on Friday in the second European Cup Super-G in Reinswald. The start time is again set at 10 a.m.
