Wengen: A station wagon full of surprises

In the end, the Swiss Niels Hintermann prevailed against the Frenchman Maxence Muzaton and the Austrian Frederic Berthold. Curious: None of the three skiers have been able to finish in the top 10 in a World Cup race. On Friday, however, they took advantage of the opportunity: at the beginning of the second round, the downhill run, the otherwise very adverse conditions (heavy snowfall) were almost ideal. Hintermann set the best time as eighth runner (he was 23rd in the first round) and relegated Muzaton (26th after the first round) and Berthold (22nd after the first round) to second and third place. Afterwards, the wet fresh snow increasingly slowed down the slopes, which is why the trio could no longer be pushed out of the top positions.

Pinturault wins first crystal ball of the season Half-time leader Justine Murisier fell back to seventh place. Alexis Pinturault had reason to celebrate, who finished the race in 20th place, but scored enough points to secure the small crystal ball in the combination classification.

For South Tyrol's ski professionals, the combination didn't go as planned. Dominik Paris, 31st after the first round, was able to gain a few positions on the descent, but is unlikely to be satisfied with 27th place. Peter Fill was eliminated in the slalom after excellent split times, as was Riccardo Tonetti, who was doomed by a threader.

The departure from Wengen is scheduled for Saturday at 12.30 p.m.
