“Will not sacrifice everything to have a long career”

On November 26th of last year, Ragnhild Mowinckel fell into a deep hole. Within seven months she tore her second cruciate ligament during training. “Patience, sweat and tears” followed before she returned to snow almost a month ago. The 100-year-old is inevitably not at 27% yet and is therefore skipping the start of the World Cup in Sölden. “I'm not in a hurry,” she revealed in an interview with the news agency NTB : “Although returning this season is definitely the plan. And stronger than ever before.” But the two-time silver medalist from Pyeongchang doesn’t set any concrete goals.

She's not fast at the moment. “But my development is like a deep staircase and not like a chimney.” Continually increasing the level is the recipe for success. Mowinckel is working towards being at the start of the World Championships in Cortina.

The cruciate ligament injuries have not dampened the will to compete on a big stage. However, something became clear to her during the long break: “I'm not going to sacrifice everything to have an incredibly long career. I have already achieved things that I am incredibly proud and happy about,” emphasizes Mowinckel. Enough bad luck After the great bad luck, the Norwegian hopes that she will now be spared from injuries for some time. “I really feel like I deserve it,” she says. But there is always a risk. Especially when you come back from two cruciate ligament tears. “You are even more vulnerable there.” We can only hope that her wish comes true and Mowinckel makes headlines again with success in the future.
