Race aborted: The weather spoils the winners' soup in Paris

The descent in Pinzgau near Salzburg had to be canceled after nine runners. Right from the start, the conditions in the 2025 World Cup venue were not ideal: the start had to be postponed due to the thick fog. Of the ski aces, only starting skier Vincent Kriechmayer had anything like good conditions; the other stars had to fight first with the fog and then with heavy snowfall.

Up to start number nine (Johan Clarey) the conditions were borderline, but still normal. However, the race was then interrupted and the restart was postponed several times until it was finally clear at 13 p.m. that it could no longer be raced. As a result, the race was not counted because at least 30 athletes had to have started. Paris was on course for victory This is particularly bitter for Dominik Paris, who was deprived of his second win of the season by the weather. The Ultner was in the lead after nine runners and had also left his two closest competitors, Matthias Mayer and Beat Feuz, behind him. Paris, who started the race with starting number three, still had to contend with thick fog in the upper section, but then showed off his class on the gliding sections and relegated World Champion Vincent Kriechmayr, who had been leading up to that point, to second place by 7 hundredths of a second.

As a result, all the other starters, including Mayer (3rd) and Feuz (4th), cut their teeth on the Paris time. Of course, we can only speculate as to whether anyone else could have posed a threat to the Ultner. However, the deficit of Mayer (+0,65 seconds) and Feuz (+1,03) showed that the South Tyrolean would have been difficult to beat that day - even by Christof Innerhofer, who was no longer allowed to drive with the number 15. Things are getting difficult with the ball now If the race had been counted, Paris would have been able to get involved in the fight for the downhill ball. Before the race he was 118 points behind the leader Feuz; if the downhill had been scored, this gap would have been practically halved. If the race is not rescheduled, it will be difficult for the South Tyrolean powerhouse to intervene again in the fight for Crystal.

What is certain, however, is that two runs are still in the program: On Saturday there will be another run in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (with much better weather expected) (11.00 a.m.), before the last run at the World Cup finals in Lenzerheide. There will also be a Super-G (10.30:XNUMX a.m.) taking place in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on Sunday.
