How Hannes Zingerle fights for his career

Zingerle is knocking on the top 30 of the World Cup start list in giant slalom, and that is a real masterpiece given the circumstances. After the association no longer believed in him, he first had to find the money he needed to continue his career.

“Good training options cost money, so I had to come up with something,” says Zingerle. In the summer he organized a golf tournament in Corvara including a raffle. “I wasn’t ashamed to ask for help. Various entrepreneurs supported me and I would like to thank them. And of course my head sponsor, for whom people count first and then success,” says Zingerle.

Hannes Zingerle will be 28 years old in April. He lives in Stern in Val Badia and practically grew up skiing on the Gran Risa. His older brother Alex competed in the Ski World Cup, but has since ended his career. At the age of 21, Hannes Zingerle made his debut in the World Cup, but he didn't really get his big breakthrough. “I should have been where I am now three years ago. But everything has to be right, including the environment,” he knows. Zingerle pursues his goals with great passion; giving up is not an option for him. That's what happened when he was kicked out of the national team a year ago.

Giving up is not an option “I joined a training group, organized all the trips myself and prepared the skis myself. “How I mastered all of this is what I’m most proud of, even more than the results,” explains Zingerle. Now he will probably return to the national team without a fixed place in the World Cup, but that is a topic that he is not concerned with. “I didn't expect to be thrown out a year ago, and I don't expect to get back in now either. “I’ll take it as it comes and go my way,” he says.

And he is convinced that this path will take him even further forward. “Now I’ve made it into the top 20 in the World Cup, and I know that I’ll make it into the top ten too.” Even then, he doesn’t think he’s reached the finish line yet, because: “I want to win.”
