It speaks for itself when a race like this only happens once a year.” “If the combination is abolished, it won’t hurt anyone.” Marco Odermatt Kilde's long-term rival Marco Odermatt, who was eliminated from the Super-G shortly before the end, also took the same line. He can't get used to the station wagon, the abolition of which has been discussed for a long time. “It would be good if that was the last combination. I think it's a shame that a slalom was held with a super-G, there's a downhill and a slalom. Otherwise you could also combine a downhill run with the giant slalom. People have been talking about abolishing this format for years, and if it really happens, it won't hurt anyone," he told Swiss television. World champion Pinturault counters One who disagrees with these words is Alexis Pinturault. The Frenchman was crowned world champion on Tuesday. At the press conference after his triumph he said the following: “I am a supporter of the station wagon. Not because I won gold today, but because this discipline is now part of our skiing tradition. The ability to race multiple disciplines is somehow the soul of our sport, just as the overall World Cup is. You just have to ask yourself the fundamental question: Do we want athletes who are outstanding in a single discipline. Or do we want athletes who can win different races.”
