Zagreb is ready for the slalom start to the new year

While things are going excellently in the giant slalom (three podium places in four races), Manuela Mölgg is lagging a little behind her expectations in the slalom. The 21st place in the last slalom in Lienz is the best slalom result this winter. That should change in Zagreb.

Manuela Mölgg is the only South Tyrolean in Zagreb

A total of five Azzurre will compete in the slalom in the Croatian capital on Wednesday. But Mölgg is only one South Tyrolean at the start. In addition to the Enneberger woman, Chiara Costazza, Irene Curtoni, Michaela Azzola and Roberta Midali will tackle the first special slalom of the new year. The first run starts at 13 p.m., the second one starts at 16.30:XNUMX p.m.

The big favorite in Zagreb is also called Mikaela Shiffrin. The 22-year-old American also recently won the parallel slalom in Oslo and has won two of the three slaloms so far this season. Only at the start of the slalom in Levi did she have to give way to the Slovakian Petra Vlhova. Last year's Zagreb winner Veronika Velez-Zuzuolova, however, is not there. She is already back in training after tearing her cruciate ligament in September. A comeback is planned soon.

Five South Tyrolean men at the start

Things are looking a little better for men with South Tyrol participation. A total of nine Azzurri are at the start, including five South Tyroleans. The race in Zagreb is special for Manfred Mölgg, after all he won there last year. It was his last World Cup victory to date. The other South Tyroleans in Zagreb are Patrick Thaler, Fabian Bacher and Alex Vinatzer. However, Riccardo Tonetti from Bolzano, who won the Italian championship title in Salom shortly before the turn of the year, is not there.

The other Azzurri in Zagreb are Stefano Gross, Giuliano Razzoli, Cristian Deville, Tommaso Sala and Federico Liberatore. The first round starts on Thursday at 12.45 p.m. The second run starts at 16.30:XNUMX p.m.
