Two German ski professionals got it badly

Two DSV athletes sustained serious injuries during preparation for the season. One of them is speed specialist Manuel Schmid, who was caught in the training camp in Chile. “I got hit during a training ride and couldn’t prevent a fall,” says the 29-year-old, who has competed in a total of 37 World Cup races. The bitter diagnosis: several broken carpal bones and there was also a sprained bone in the knee.

Schmid has to take a break for four to six weeks. It is uncertain whether he will make a comeback for the first speed race in Zermatt-Cervinia (end of October). “The injury is annoying because I was in good shape. But I have already overcome a few setbacks and am now doing everything I can to get fit as quickly as possible,” said Schmid, whose best World Cup result is 13th place in Wengen.

Ski talent with serious injury The German speed talent Nadine Kapfer also had a bad time. She tore her cruciate ligament and has already had surgery. “That wasn’t the plan for the new season,” writes the 22-year-old on social media. “For me, winter is over before it begins. But that's part of the game and I'll come back stronger.” Kapfer is mainly active in the European Cup, but was also able to get a taste of World Cup action five times.
