Second World Cup victory for Fenninger - nothing to win for South Tyroleans

The 23-year-old ÖSV athlete, who was a prominent onlooker at the Snowboard World Cup in Carezza exactly a week ago, clearly took the lead in the first round, which she never let go.

She crossed the finish line in the last giant slalom in 2012 after 2:13,09 minutes and clearly set herself apart from the rest of the competition. She won by 1,10 seconds ahead of Tina Maze, who won four of six giant slaloms this season.

Third-placed Frenchwoman Tessa Worley was 1,18 seconds behind Fenninger, who celebrated the second World Cup success of her career at Semmering. Her only first place in the World Cup so far came in December 2011 at the giant slalom in Lienz.

South Tyroleans defeated

In the first run, Manuela Mölgg lost exactly two seconds to Fenninger and was in eleventh place at the halfway point. The 29-year-old from Enneberg was also the best of the Italian team in the first round. However, she made a mistake in the second run and ultimately had to settle for 29th place. The fastest “Azzurra” was Nadia Fanchini in 12th place, 3,23 seconds behind.

Denise Karbon ultimately achieved the best result from a South Tyrolean perspective in 19th place. The woman from Castelrotto was 3,70 seconds slower than Fenninger. Lisa Agerer was also able to collect World Cup points with 30th place (+4,91 seconds).

Tomorrow a World Cup slalom will be held at Semmering. The first run takes place at 15 p.m. and the second at 18 p.m.

Second World Cup victory for Fenninger - nothing to win for South Tyroleans

The Austrian dominated the World Cup giant slalom at Semmering. She won by over a second ahead of the overall World Cup leader Slovenian Tina Maze. In the second run, three South Tyroleans took part: Manuela Mölgg, Denise Karbon and Lisa Agerer. However, they had no say in the medal decision.
