Comebacker Klotz is eager for the home World Cup

Main actors, like Siegmar Klotz, who had a serious fall last year, who could ensure the first podium for an Azzurro on what is possibly the most technically demanding slope in the entire ski cross circus.

The difficult course in Innichen is almost tailor-made for Klotz. The many technical passages and the steep gradient are in keeping with the former Alpine experience. On the Haunold slope he was on his way to his first podium finish in the second World Cup race last year when he fell in the semi-finals after a duel with Paul Eckert from Germany and suffered a serious pelvic injury that kept him out of action in the World Cup until the end of the season sat. Despite the unfortunate accident, the 32-year-old from Pawigl still counts the Haunold piste as his favorite route.

Block full of confidence “I have recovered very well from the fall, I don't feel any pain and the preparation has gone well so far. We are currently in Pitztal, where we have been training since last week. We've had very good conditions here the last few days. We were also able to compare ourselves with some other strong nations that also train here in Austria. We’re absolutely on board,” reports Siegmar Klotz from the training camp.

At the weekend, Klotz in Pitztal will take part in the Austrian championships together with his colleagues from the Italian national team and also compete in a European Cup race. The Azzurri then head back home before probably a few more days of testing before the start of the World Cup on December 5th with the qualification in Val Thorens (France). The podium is the goal “In the coming season I want to be as far ahead as possible in the World Cup and constantly improve. My best result so far is fourth place, so I'm aiming for the podium. In Innichen I certainly have the best conditions for this. Will the fall concern me when I return? No definitely not. There were simply a lot of unfortunate factors that came together and if you fall in ski cross, then something quickly happened,” explains Klotz.

As far as the overall ranking of the Cross Alps Tour with the associated races in Val Thorens, Montafon, Arosa and the finale in Innichen is concerned, the South Tyrolean model athlete has not set himself any major goals in a season without world championships or Winter Olympics. “After the injury break, I first have to see what is possible for me in the first few races.
