The Ski Cross World Cup is coming to South Tyrol

On the Haunold piste in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region, two very exciting races will take place on Friday, December 21st and Saturday, December 22nd, which are also part of the Cross Alps Tour. The most important international competition series is coming to San Candido for the tenth time.

Fanny Smith and Jonas Lenherr secured home wins in Arosa on Monday evening. The two top Swiss athletes triumphed in the first ski crosser World Cup race, officially opening the competition season. Now the entourage is moving to South Tyrol.

Finals on Friday and Saturday After a training day on Wednesday, the qualification will take place on Thursday, December 20th. Afterwards, the international ski cross elite will be looking for tickets for the two races on Friday (start of the finals from 12 p.m.) and Saturday (finals from 11.15 a.m.). This also applies to the Italian team, which, according to the winter sports association FISI, consists of Jamie Lee Castello, Riccardo Croese, Simone Deromedis, Giacomo Gueci, Yanick Gunsch (Prad am Stilfserjoch), Siegmar Klotz (Pawigl), Andrea Tonon, Patrick Wolfsgruber (Percha) , Edoardo Zorzi and Lucrezia Fantelli.

In any case, in Innichen everything is set up for exciting and emotionally charged duels on the approximately 1200 meter long route on the Haunold slope, which has been prepared over the past eight days. “Our team around piste builder Andreas Silbernagl did an excellent job. The course will demand everything from the top athletes. At the same time, we strive to conduct a race that is as safe as possible. In any case, we are looking forward to four days of spectacle,” says race director Kurt Sulzenbacher. The most overtaking maneuvers in the World Cup take place in San Candido And OC boss Helmuth Senfter adds: “The track in San Candido is the one on which there are the most overtaking maneuvers in the entire World Cup circuit. This creates a lot of tension. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners and the many volunteers who are committed to our event in advance.”

The audience in San Candido doesn't just get their money's worth during the races. The starting numbers will be officially handed over to the racers on Thursday evening from 18 p.m. in the center of the market town of Innichen. On Friday evening - also from 18 p.m. - the award ceremony with the top stars of the ski cross scene as well as the starting number draw for the Saturday races will take place at the Innichen Christmas market.
