San Candido is looking forward to the return of the Ski Cross World Cup

The Ski Cross World Cup 2021/22 is in the starting blocks. In just over a week the Olympic test event will start in the Chinese Secret Garden (Zhangjiakou) before the elite return to Europe and pitch their tents in Val Thorens, Arosa and Innichen until Christmas. In the heart of the 3 Zinnen Dolomites holiday region, after the training, the qualification is on the agenda on Saturday, December 18th. The exciting races in the knockout system will take place on Sunday, December 19th (from 12 p.m.) and on Monday, December 20th (from 11.30 a.m.). Excitement and thrills are guaranteed on the demanding course at Haunold, which is also rewarded by the high ratings for the direct television broadcasts. “Formula 1 ski race” The organizers in Innichen are not just sticking to the tried and tested when it comes to the format. They also rely on their long-standing partners when it comes to the technical aspect of the “Formula 1 ski races”. “With F-Tech, Prinoth, Leitner and Technoalpin, four top South Tyrolean companies are closely involved here - from transport, to snowmaking, to piste preparation and construction of the course. They immediately incorporate their technical know-how into top-class sport,” emphasizes OK President Helmuth Senfter from the organizing WSV Innichen. A classic for a long time The stage in San Candido has long been one of the classics for ski crossers. After the premiere in the 2009/10 season, the entourage returned to South Tyrol every year. The only exception was last winter. The anticipation for what is now the 12th edition of the traditional winter sports event is all the greater. “After the cancellation last year due to the increased security risk and many other difficulties amid the corona pandemic, we can hardly wait for our comeback and are looking forward to the many top athletes. Preparations are in full swing and are at a good point,” explains Senfter. The last races in San Candido in December 2019 were won by Marielle Berger Sabbatel (France), Fanny Smith (Switzerland), Kevin Drury (Canada) and Joos Berry (Switzerland). Smith is also the reigning overall World Cup champion, while in the men's category, Reece Howden from Canada was presented with the large crystal ball at the end of the 2020/21 season.

One of the most traditional stages in the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup returns to the calendar after a year-long absence. From Saturday, December 18th to Monday, December 20th, the best ski crossers will fight for important points for the overall World Cup at Haunold.
