Siegmar Klotz is worried about the Olympic season

The 34-year-old is not fit. He has not yet fully recovered from the after-effects of a broken pelvis sustained during the Ski Cross World Cup on December 15, 2020 in Arosa. “First of all, I have to say that my fall was not nearly as severe as the one in San Candido in December 2018 when I broke my pubic bone. In Arosa I was only x-rayed and no fracture was found. It was only a few days later, after I returned home, that I had a magnetic resonance scan carried out in Bolzano, and that was where the fracture on the back side of the pelvic bone became visible.” Klotz did not need surgery because the fracture was just growing together. “From April I was able to ski freely again. The fitness training in the summer also went without any problems.” But then: “During the ski training from mid-August onwards, I got terrible pain. I was able to train for two, maximum 3 days with a few rides, and then I had to take a few days off. The joint became more and more inflamed, so in mid-October I decided to stop ski training and try magnetic field therapy instead. I can do this at home and it should help reduce the inflammation in the pelvis. It's my last hope. But I’m running out of time.” It's getting very tight For Siegmar Klotz it was always clear that this Olympic season would be his last as a ski crosser. “The Olympics only happen every four years, and the fact that I’ll still be in the circus in 4 at the age of 38 is an illusion.” After the World Cup opener in China, the Skicross Alps Tour is on the program with 6 World Cups within 10 days. It is certain that Klotz cannot start there. So in January 2022 he theoretically only has a chance to get an Olympic ticket for Beijing at the last minute in Nakiska (Canada) and Idre Fjäll (Sweden). “It’s going to be damn close.” Siegmar Klotz on Olympic qualification “It’s going to be damn close,” says the former speed specialist, who finished in the top 96 18 times in 20 Ski World Cup races. “If the magnetic field therapy doesn’t work quickly and I can’t train for racing for a few days in December, that will be it,” he looks ahead cautiously. Especially since he knows that only a fit body can lead to success. “The pressure in the corners and when landing after the jumps – if you’re not fit, you have no chance.” However, Siegmar Klotz has not remained idle in the last few weeks and months. He trained as a second-degree ski coach with many other former ski stars, including Denise Karbon and Peter Fill. “We first attended the theory course in Milan and then spent a few weeks on snow in Senales.
