Evelyn Insam goes her own way

Last season was not very successful for Evelyn Insam and Elena Runggaldier. The two hopefuls in the Italian team never really got going. Insam's best result was 17th place in Zao, Japan, while Runggaldier achieved 24th place twice (Hinzenbach, Sapporo).

The class of the two jumpers cannot be denied. Insam, who was runner-up in the junior world championship two years ago, made people sit up and take notice with a fifth place at the Olympic Games in Sochi. Runggaldier became vice world champion in Oslo four years ago. But in top-class sport you don't remember good results from yesterday or the day before yesterday. The performance always has to be right.

Due to the mixed season, those responsible in the Italian association pulled the ripcord and the women's team was dissolved. For Elena Runggaldier, this means that she will train with the Finanzwache sports group in the future. But Evelyn Insam doesn’t want that. The 20-year-old from Wolkenstein has left the sports group and wants to work with her private trainer.

On Tuesday she commented on her move on Facebook. “In the spring, the Italian Ski Federation decided to no longer set up a national team in women’s ski jumping. I would therefore have had to follow the financial guard's training ideas. “I tried to find a solution together with the association and the financial guard, but I was not allowed to follow a training idea that I believed in and with which I would have been allowed to retain the support of the financial guard,” writes Insam.

That's why she decided to go her own way. “I love ski jumping and have big dreams. I will fight to achieve this. It was not an easy decision, especially not from a financial perspective, because without support from the association and the financial guard, I will have to pay everything myself,” Insam continued.

The woman from Val Gardena would like to thank the financial guard and everyone who works there for their support over the past three years. Finally, she addresses her appeal to possible sponsors. “I would greatly appreciate any support I can have from you friends and fans, and I ask you to do me the favor of passing the message on to others who may be interested in supporting me.”

Insam and Runggaldier have come to terms with the current situation - each in their own way. It will be interesting to see whether they get back on the road to success next season.
