Friday shock in Innsbruck – Stoch before a historic victory

It was clear from the start that the Bergisel ski jump in Innsbruck was not perfectly prepared. Several jumpers had problems with the inrun track and the landing. It wasn't just the Austrian Stefan Kraft, who couldn't get out of his form slump at Bergisel, who spoke in a TV interview in front of a "poorly prepared facility."

Had a bad fall on Friday

The Germans made the most serious accusations - including against the FIS jury. They complained that the run-up was too long and that the FIS had not reacted. Together with the rainy weather and the poor conditions when jumping, the conditions were dangerous for the jumpers, said German team boss Werner Schuster.

Understandable, after all her best man, Richard Freitag, got hit. He sailed to 130 meters in the first round, but was unable to hold the jump and fell heavily. Freitag had to be escorted out of the run-off zone and was no longer able to compete in the second round.

Stoch is on the verge of a historic triumph

Thanks to Friday's fall, the path to overall tour victory is now clear for Kamil Stoch. The Pole, who won the Four Hills Tournament last year, has won all three competitions so far. If he also wins the Dreikönigs jumping in Bischofshofen on Saturday, he would equal Sven Hannawald's record. He won all four competitions at the Four Hills Tournament in 2002 - no one else has ever achieved that.

It seems almost certain that Stoch, who was only the second Pole to win at Bergisel, will win the overall ranking of the Four Hills Tournament. Before the last competition, Stoch was almost 65 points ahead of second-placed Andreas Wellinger. He stepped into the breach for his fallen teammate on Friday and took third place in Innsbruck. Last year's winner Daniel-Andrè Tande from Norway came in second.

Only Sebastian Colloredo from the Azzurri was there. However, he was eliminated in the first round against Anders Fannemel and came 34th. Alex Insam from Val Gardena was unable to qualify for the jumping at Bergisel.
