Friday second in the Willingen qualification - Stoch in front

Willingen (SID) Richard Freitag (Aue) took second place in the qualification for the World Cup ski jumping in Willingen, Hesse. The overall World Cup leader flew from the Mühlenkopfschanze to 139,5 m and was only beaten by his long-term Polish rival Kamil Stoch (142,5), from whom he took the yellow jersey of the World Cup leader last Sunday in Zakopane. Andreas Wellinger (Ruhpolding), who won the individual competition in Willingen last year, took twelfth place with 133,5 m. The Willingen local hero Stephan Leyhe also took part in the competition of the best 50 on Saturday (16.00 p.m./ZDF and Eurosport) in seventh place with 143,0 m, Markus Eisenbichler (Siegsdorf) in eleventh place with 136,0 m and Karl Geiger (Oberstdorf). 26th with 136,5 m. The former junior world champion David Siegel (Baiersbronn), who was part of the team for youngster Constantin Schmid (in action at the junior world championships), was disqualified before his jump because of a suit that did not comply with the rules. Since a total of only 56 jumpers registered for the qualification, only five others besides Siegel fell through the cracks. The result of the qualification will be included in the newly created overall ranking “Willingen Five”. The jumper with the highest number of points after five competitions from Friday to Sunday will receive prize money of 25.000 euros. At the Olympic dress rehearsal shortly before departure to Pyeongchang, the top nations Germany, Norway, Poland and Slovenia will once again be in their best positions. Austria and Japan only have one B team at the start, and the Swiss four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann is also missing. In Willingen, the German Ski Association (DSV) was unable to report a contingent via the so-called national group. Each nation is only allowed to use these additional six jumpers for two home competitions - the DSV used this for the two competitions of the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There will be another individual competition in Willingen on Sunday (10.20 a.m./ZDF and Eurosport); there will no longer be a separate qualification for this.
