With plenty of momentum going into the Nordic World Ski Championships

The Nordic World Ski Championships are on the program in Planica, Slovenia, from February 21st to March 6th. Italy's Nordic combined and ski jumper squad was announced on Monday. The ski jumpers, Alex Insam and the Malsiner sisters Jessica and Lara, are three athletes from Val Gardena at the start. Giovanni Bresadola and Francesco Cecon were also nominated for the World Cup. Insam and Lara Malsiner gained a lot of self-confidence over the weekend. Insam jumped into the top ten of the World Cup for the first time ever in ninth place in Rasnov, Romania. Malsiner came tenth. Her sister Jessica came in 13th. The women's World Championships in Planica start on Wednesday with the qualification for the first normal hill competition (Thursday). The men will compete in the qualification for the normal hill on Friday. The medals will be awarded there on Saturday. Three people from Val Gardena are also competing in the Nordic Combined: Samuel Costa, Aaron Kostner and Daniela Dejori. Also taking part are Iacopo Bortolas, Raffaele Buzzi, Alessandro Pittin as well as Veronica Gianmoena, Greta Pinzani and Annika Sieff from Fiemme, who only won the junior world championship title around two weeks ago. Six South Tyroleans – all from Val Gardena – are in the Azzurri squad for the Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping World Championships. Some of them have gained a lot of self-confidence recently.
