Today the Nordic World Ski Championships opens in Fiemme Valley

After 1991 and 2003, the Fiemme Valley will host the Nordic Ski World Championships for the third time from February 20th to March 3rd. A total of 36 “Azzurri” were nominated, including eleven South Tyroleans.

The cross-country skiers include Roland Clara (Reischach), David Hofer (St. Christina), Dietmar Nöckler (Brunico) and Debora Agreiter (Stern). Thomas Moriggl from Schlinig was nominated as a reserve man for the distance competitions. This is the first World Cup participation for Agreiter and Nöckler. In addition to Roberta D'Agostina, the ski jumpers' hopes rest on Evelyn Insam (Wolkenstein), Manuela Malsiner (St. Ulrich) and Elena Runggaldier (St. Christina). Elena Runggaldier in particular will have good memories of the last World Cup in Oslo 2011. At that time she won her first medal in the international championships and at the same time the first World Cup medal for Italy in ski jumping.

In addition to the ski jumper from St. Christina, the vice-junior world champion Evelyn Insam also has a great chance of winning precious metal. For 15-year-old Manuela Malsiner from Ortisei, who collected her first World Cup points last weekend, the main thing will be to gain experience.

In addition to Giuseppe Michielli and the Olympic bronze medalist from Vancouver Alessandro Pittin, the three Val Gardena athletes Armin Bauer (Wolkenstein), Samuel Costa (Wolkenstein) and Lukas Runggaldier (St. Christina) are trying out for the Nordic combined athletes.
