Lisa Demetz: “I’m back, but I had to go through a lot”

Lisa Demetz is back! After months of physiotherapy and advanced training, the South Tyrolean is back in the international ski jumping circus. That November 24th, when her cruciate ligament tore during a training jump in Lillehammer, is now a long way away. Rather, the anticipation for the coming season now predominates.

“I'm glad it's starting again. It was a long, rocky road back. I was very lucky to have many friends, family and competent physiotherapists to support me. I spent a month in Parma, where a friend of mine runs a physiotherapy studio. She was there for me 24 hours a day. Afterwards, together with ice hockey coach Pepi Linder, I slowly began to get back into everyday training. “Everything happened much faster than initially thought,” says Demetz happily.

Since November, the Val Gardena resident has used every free minute to work on her fitness. “I did exercises six days a week to finally be able to stand on skis again. I wouldn't wish such an injury on anyone. During this time I never lost my passion for sport. Now I can finally train freely again.”

Return to the stress of competition

Lisa Demetz will soon return to complete normality and start training with her teammates. She has already marked the first date in her calendar: from June 3rd to 7th she will go to a first training camp in Stams, followed by test jumps in Val Gardena and Predazzo. “I managed to turn my hobby into a career. I want to do this for as long as I can. I'm already looking forward to seeing my teammates, the coaches and, above all, the ski jump again. I got the green light from the doctors. Now it can start."

First competition in Hinterzarten On January 7, 2012, Lisa Demetz made international ski jumping history when she became the first Italian woman to jump onto the World Cup podium in Hinterzarten. Of all places, the Val Gardena native will make her competitive comeback in the winter sports resort in the Black Forest from July 26th to 28th. At the Summer Grand Prix she will measure herself against the competition again for the first time and manage the start of the Olympic season.
