At 29 years old: Elena Runggaldier says hello

Elena Runggaldier is one of the most successful South Tyrolean ski jumpers of all time. Already in her youth she demonstrated her great talent when she won gold (2010), silver (2008) and bronze (2006) at the Junior World Championships. The Val Gardena native finally celebrated her greatest success in 2011: at the “real” World Championships in Oslo, she won a silver medal at the tender age of 20. No ski jumper from Italy had previously won a precious metal at a World Cup. In the World Cup, Runggaldier achieved a podium finish in the team competition in Lillehammer in 2012. She also has 13 other top 10 places to her name. The wedding is coming up Now Runggaldier has said goodbye to the ski jumping stage at the age of 29. “I made this decision because I have been lacking the ultimate determination for some time. I feel like trying new things,” she is quoted as saying on the website of the Italian Winter Sports Federation. “I achieved my best. Now I'm getting married. The wedding to Francois Braud (a former French combined athlete, editor's note) is coming up in September,” revealed Runggaldier.

The 29-year-old knows that the Azzurre are well positioned for the future. “We will hear a lot more from the Malsiner sisters. “Manuela came back from a serious injury this year, Lara and Jessica are technically extremely good,” said Runggaldier, who particularly remembers one event in her career. “There is no question: I will never forget the silver medal in Oslo,” said the native of Val Gardena.
