Schuster should lead Schlierenzauer back to the top

The Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) announced this on Tuesday. “Werner Schuster’s role has been clearly agreed upon with the association; cooperation and exchange are above all else,” said Schlierenzauer.

Schuster left the German Ski Association (DSV) after the extremely successful World Cup in Seefeld in February, and the association hired Schuster's Austrian compatriot Stefan Horngacher as his successor. Despite working with Schuster, Schlierenzauer will continue to train under ÖSV head coach Andreas Felder. “Having Werner’s support closes the circle for me – he was a key figure as a coach, we had and still have a great relationship,” said Schlierenzauer. Schuster had already looked after the ten-time world champion and Vancouver team Olympic champion in his youth.

Schlierenzauer (29) has been waiting for his 54th World Cup victory for four years. After several injuries and due to continued poor form, he was not nominated for the home World Cup in Seefeld. Nevertheless, he continues his career. “Despite the lean last few years, ski jumping still means a lot to me - I am all the more pleased about the trust from the ÖSV and am very grateful for the journey we have taken together,” said Schlierenzauer.
