TICKER | What else is happening in winter sports?

This winter sports Saturday is all about the European Luge Championships, the big Alpine World Cup decisions in Wengen and Zauchensee, as well as those of the biathletes in Ruhpolding. We summarize what happens outside of this here.

SKIRPING: Slovenia won the first Super Team competition in Wisla, Poland. The teams only consisted of two athletes, and a total of three rounds were completed. Lovro Kos and Anze Lanisek prevailed with a lead of 42,5 points over Austria (Manuel Fettner & Jan Hörl). Germany with Andreas Wellinger and Stephan Leyhe finished two points behind in third place. Alex Insam and Giovanni Bresadola did not reach the third round because Bresadola was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct. Italy finished 9th.


BOB:
Johannes Lochner also fended off another attack from compatriot Francesco Friedrich in the men's two-man bobsleigh. At the World Cup in St. Moritz, Lochner from Berchtesgaden, who competed for Stuttgart, won with his pusher Georg Fleischhauer in 2:10,74 minutes. Friedrich and pusher Alexander Schüller, who were still winless in the two-man bobsleigh this winter, came in second place, 0,25 seconds behind. The South Tyrolean Patrick Baumgartner took 8th place.

NORDIC COMBINATION: At the Nordic Combined World Cup in Oberstdorf, Jarl Magnus Riiber won ahead of an Austrian quartet led by Johannes Lamparter. Aaron Kostner landed in 24th place, Samuel Costa in 26th place. The Norwegian Mari Leinan Lund won the women's event. Daniela Dejori took 14th place.

SKI JUMPING: Defending World Cup champion Eva Pinkelnig celebrated her eleventh World Cup victory on Saturday in ski jumping in Sapporo, which was disrupted by heavy snowfall. The Austrian won ahead of Finnish Jenny Rautionaho and Eirin Maria Kvandal from Norway. The best Italian was Annika Sieff from Val Gardena, Val Gardena, who came in 24th Jessica Malsiner scored World Cup points in 28th place. Her older sister Lara Malsiner Finished 31st and narrowly missed qualifying for the second round.
