Manfred Reichegger wins Feuerstein Skiraid

It was a success that the 2nd Feuerstein Skiraid was able to take place this Sunday. Due to the large amount of unexpected fresh snow that had fallen during the night, the organizers from the Skialp section of ASV Gossensaß not only had to select a new, safe route at short notice, but also had to re-track the route in the morning. The Feuerstein Skiraid itself was an extremely exciting affair.

Because the men's decision was made on the home straight. Veteran Manfred Reichegger from Mühlwald (army sports group) and athlete from the Italian national team William Boffelli (Under Up) fought an exciting head-to-head race after the start. The duel was decided in the last few meters. The multiple World Cup medalist from South Tyrol retained the upper hand with a winning time of 1:08.21,3 hours. His lead over the aspiring ski mountaineer from Roncobello in the province of Bergamo was just 1,6 seconds. At the same time, Reichegger also won the national championship title, which was awarded as part of the Feuerstein Ski Raid.

Alex Oberbacher from Val Gardena from the Bogn da Nia team took third place at the Feuerstein Skiraid. The 24-year-old reached the finish at the Erl cross-country skiing center after 1:10.03,1 hours. With Roberto De Simone (ASV Gossensaß) and Christoph Niederwieser (ASD Skialprace), two local ski mountaineers also took 4th and 5th place in the ranking.

Ghirardi with start-to-finish victory – Leitner is national champion

In the women's category, Corinna Ghirardi (Adamello Ski), another top athlete, also won. The ski mountaineer from Malonno in the province of Brescia won in 1:27.38,7 hours with a big lead over Jessica Leonardi from Trentino (1:37.47,7). The best South Tyrolean was Josefina Leitner. The athlete from the host ASV Gossensaß was able to celebrate third place (1:38.36,3) and was also crowned national champion.

In the junior age group, the national championship title went to Nicolas Ploner (ASD Badiasport) and Vivien Senn (ASV Gossensaß). Thomas Ainhauser (ASC Sarntal) won the under-23 category and Anton Steiner (ASV Martell) won the Masters.

“Due to the weather conditions and the unexpected, very heavy snowfall that night, it was anything but easy to hold this competition. But in the end we did it – as a tight-knit organizational team and with the help of the many volunteers. That's why I would like to thank the whole team for their commitment. I would also like to thank all the participants who came to Pflerschtal despite adverse conditions, did not let it stop them from taking part in the 2nd Feuerstein Skiraid and showed outstanding performances,” said OC boss Stefanie De Simone.

The overall winners of the South Tyrol Cup have been determined

The Feuerstein Skiraid was also the last stage of the South Tyrol Cup, which this year comprised a total of three stages. Lois Craffonara from ASD Badiasport took overall victory in the men's category and Josefina Leitner (ASV Gossensaß) in the women's category.
