Marmotta Trophy firmly in French hands

The route for which World Cup points were awarded had an altitude difference of 1677 m for the senior category, divided into four ascent sections. The women and juniors had to cover a shorter route with a height difference of 1280 m. The juniors, on the other hand, had a height difference of 950 m with two ascents. The snow conditions were perfect on all sections of the route, and thanks to the fresh snow that had recently fallen, the athletes were able to enjoy the descent in complete safety. On the longest route, the competitors had to complete two stretches of climbing.

Bon Mardion leaves everyone behind

The seniors’ race started at 9 a.m. During the first short climb to the Random Hut, the group, led by the Spaniard Kilian Jornet Burgada, had already dragged on. Behind him were William Bon Mardion, Xavier Gachet, Damiano Lenzi and Michele Boscacci. On the second ascent on foot, before reaching the Marteller Hut, Kilian was still leading the group; it was only after the following descent that the Frenchman William Bon Mardion took over the lead of the race.

Bon Mardion began to leave the others behind, steadily increasing the pace and increasing his lead over Kilian Jornet Burgada. On the third climb, at the end of the technical stretch, he was almost a minute ahead of Kilian, who was closely followed by the Frenchman Xavier Gachet. On the descent, William Bon Mardion took all the corners correctly and crossed the finish line with a time of 1:44'09'', followed by Kilian Jornet Burgada, who is 1,20'' minutes slower. Xavier Gachet takes third place with a time of 1:45'58''. Italians Michele Boscacci and Damiano Lenzi came fourth and fifth.

Laetitia Roux in a class of her own

For the women, the usual game was repeated with Laetitia Roux, who quickly gained a lead over Axelle Mollaret and Emelie Forsberg. Roux had no problems maintaining her leading position and reached the finish after 1:38'58'', with the young Axelle Mollaret coming second. Sweden's Emelie Forsberg completed the podium with the third best time of 1:42'42''.

In the juniors, Davide Magnini won gold ahead of Swann Juillaguet and Rémi Bonnet. Alba De Silvestro won the juniors with a time of 1:21'14''. In the Espoir category, the Frenchwoman Axelle Mollaret won the women's category, while the Italian Nadir Maguet secured first place in the men's category.

The Sprint Race starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Martello Biathlon Center.

FISI races as a great opportunity

The organizers not only organized this World Cup race, but also included the FISI race in the program of the classic version of the Marmotta Trophy, a unique opportunity in Italy to compete with the international elite of ski mountaineers.

In the men's race, Filippo Beccari took first place with a time of 1:58'38'' ahead of Roberto De Simone and Ivo Zulian. Roberta Pedranzini achieved the best time for women with 1:44'04. Sylvia Berghammer took second place, Birgit Stuffer came third. In the Master category, Martin Esler won with 2:12'34'' ahead of Anton Steiner and Thomas Koller.

Marmotta Trophy firmly in French hands

The third race of the Scarpa ISMF World Cup took place in Val Martello on Saturday. Among the numerous participants, the Frenchmen William Bon Mardion and Laetitia Roux particularly stood out, as they held their own on the demanding course.
