Ski mountaineers compete in the Feuerstein Skiraid

The snow situation at higher altitudes is good throughout the Alpine region in mid-March. However, it is currently particularly excellent in the Pflerschtal, where it has snowed heavily in the past few weeks and the landscape has been covered in a thick white layer.

Perfect conditions for the Feuerstein Skiraid, which takes place in the long side valley of the Wipptal on Sunday, March 18th.

Ski mountaineers from near and far will then take part in the competition, which the Skialp section of ASV Gossensaß is organizing for the second time.

“The final preparations are in full swing. We are happy that it finally starts on Sunday. The only thing that worries us – as probably all other organizers – is the weather. We are confident that the race can take place on the original route. But we are also prepared for other eventualities,” confirms the OK team.

Boffelli challenges Thöni and Reichegger There is news regarding the starting field. William Boffelli from Roncobello in the province of Bergamo recently enrolled. He is a member of the Italian national ski mountaineering team. Boffelli will not only challenge last year's winner and local hero David Thöni from Gossensaß, but also Manfred Reichegger from Ahrntal, as well as Martin Weisskopf, a member of the Austrian national team. As part of the Feuerstein Skiraid, not only the national champions of all categories are determined, but also the overall winners of the South Tyrol Cup.

Registrations for the Feuerstein Skiraid are still possible until Friday, March 16th. The starting numbers can be picked up on Saturday from 17 p.m. to 19 p.m. in the race office in the Gossensaß community hall, where the briefing will also take place at 19 p.m. On Sunday, the starting packages will be handed out from 6 a.m. to 7.30:8.30 a.m. - also in the Gossensaß community hall - before the Feuerstein Skiraid begins at 10.30:14 a.m. in the Erl cross-country skiing center.
