Weisskopf and Ghirardi winners of the Drei Zinnen Ski Raid

In total, more than 140 athletes took part in the 23rd edition of the Drei Zinnen Ski Raid in fantastic weather and light winds on the mountain peaks, in which the participants had to cover 17,8 kilometers and a total of 1625 meters in altitude.

At exactly 8 a.m. the racing class set off from the start in Fischleintal (1454 meters above sea level) at an extremely fast pace. Via the valley end hut (1548) we went up to the Zsigmondy hut (2224), then after a short descent we continued to the Büllelejoch (2528) and after another descent to the Sextnerstein (2539), where the 4 kilometer long finish descent to the valley end hut began. Here Martin Weisskopf had already gained a big lead, which he easily defended from the last change point to the finish. In the end, the 28-year-old from Prägraten am Großvenediger won with a time of 1:44.06 hours. Weisskopf was 30 seconds ahead of Valentino Bacca from Rumo in the Non Valley, who, like last year, came in second. Meanwhile, third place went to Enrico Loss, another young Trentino native.

Ghirardi wins on her debut The day's victory among women went to Corinna Ghirardi from Lombard. The 40-year-old from Ponte di Legno covered the 17,8 kilometers with 1625 meters of climbing in 2:04.12 hours. This meant that the ski mountaineer from Ponte di Legno was more than five minutes faster than Martina De Silvestro, who lost out to Dimitra Theocharis and Margit Zulian in the sprint for the podium places.

“I had a great duel with Dimitra Theocharis, but was able to pull away and win clearly in the end. Compliments to the organizers for this great event. I was completely surprised by the good snow conditions. “Now I’m fully focused on the Sellaronda Ski Marathon, which will take place next Friday,” said Ghirardi shortly after reaching the finish line. The second-placed Martina De Silvestro, however, was happy about a successful catch-up at the valley end hut. “At Sextnerstein I was still in fourth place. Then I saw Martina Zulian in front of me and did everything I could to catch up with her. Once I had done that, Dimitra Theocharis was suddenly within reach – and the same game again,” said De Silvestro.

A mishap almost cost Dimitra Theocharis the podium the day after her 27th birthday. “I didn't know that there was a change point before the finish and I stopped at the finish line. Only then did I realize that I had to keep going and my competitors rushed up from behind with a lot of momentum. In the end I have to be happy with third place because I could have finished fourth,” explained the ski mountaineer from Tolmezzo in Friuli, who will be competing in the Italian Cup at Passo Brocon on Sunday. Jank and Kröll win among the amateurs As part of the 23rd Drei Zinnen Ski Raid, there was, as usual, a separate ranking for the ski mountaineers in the amateur class. Andreas Jank (SC Kuchl/La Sportiva) won the men's event with a time of 1:58.58, while Stephanie Kröll (Mountainheroes Zillertal) won the day's event for the women in 2:22.08. “The incredibly beautiful weather certainly contributed to a sensational competition. The Drei Zinnen Ski Raid has established itself as a top international event that attracts athletes from all over the Alpine region and this year even from the USA.
