Slopestyle: Welponer & Co. miss out on finals

79 freestylers from 23 nations took part in the first qualification for a Slopestyle World Cup on the Stubai Glacier. Only the four best runners in each group made it to the final on Sunday. Ralph Welponer from Val Gardena (sixth place at the Big Air Milan a week ago) and Jonas Seiwald from Gsies were drawn into the third group. Welponer came in seventh in his group with 79,00 points, and the man from Val Gardena ended up in 27th place in the overall ranking. Seiwald came tenth in his run with 59,66 points and 51st in the overall ranking. Christoph Schenk from Val Gardena started in the fourth group, his run was rated with 47,33 points, 17th/62nd place. Igor Lastei from the Fassa Valley had a pitch-black day and only managed 7,66 points. This meant that the local slopestylers were in good company, as prominent names such as Elias Ambühl (winner of Big Air Milan) and Hugo Burvall (runner-up of Big Air Milan) also failed to qualify.

Due to the unfavorable weather forecast, the program was quickly turned upside down, the men's qualification was postponed to Friday, the women's qualification with Silvia Bertagna from Val Gardena followed on Saturday, and the final was to take place immediately afterwards. The men's final is scheduled for Sunday, provided the weather cooperates.

Slopestyle: Welponer & Co. miss out on finals

The Freeski Slopestyle World Cup continues this weekend on the Stubai Glacier. The “Azzurri” were not at the start at the start in New Zealand in August. In the “Stubai Zoo” on Friday, Ralph Welponer, Jonas Seiwald and Christoph Schenk failed in qualifying, as did the other “Azzurri”.
