Andrea Tribus ends her career

Andrea Tribus looks back on a troubled summer. The thought of whether or not she should continue her career as an alpine snowboarder gave her a headache for weeks. Especially because she ended the mixed 2013/14 season by winning an Italian championship title. Two weeks before the first training sessions on the glacier, she finally made a decision and ended her career. At just 24 years old. After 27 appearances in the World Cup. Two top 20 results in the World Cup and 18 top 10 places in the European Cup. Won three Italian championship titles. And a World Cup participation.

“I hoped until the end that I would be accepted into a sports group. I asked everywhere but never received a positive answer. However, without financial security it is very difficult to practice this sport. I had to work in the summer to finance the winter months. And without the financial help of my parents and sponsors it wouldn't have been possible at all. And that’s why I drew a line in the sand – even though the decision wasn’t easy for me,” explains Andrea Tribus in an interview with SportNews.

But the 24-year-old from Burgstal with eyes that glow blue like a glacial lake doesn't hold any grudges. On the contrary. She is grateful for what she experienced during her time as an activist. “I was particularly influenced by my time at the Mals sports school. There I trained professionally and learned discipline for the first time. What was particularly nice was that I was able to travel a lot during my time with the national team and gain valuable experience that I might not have had otherwise. I am very grateful to my family, especially my parents, because they, together with the sponsors, made this possible for me,” says Tribus.

But Andrea Tribus can't stop snowboarding completely. Discussions are currently underway with a club where she will probably help out as a coach in the winter. “In this way I can pass on my experience to young talents.” By the way, that’s what she’s already doing in her new job: Andrea Tribus has been a teacher since she started school.
