Boardercrossers start the Olympic winter

The two South Tyrolean boardercrossers Omar Visintin (Lagundo) and Emanuel Perathoner (Laion) have been preparing for the start of the World Cup in Argentina with their teammates Luca Matteotti, Tommaso Leoni, Fabio Cordi, Michele Godino and Lorenzo Sommariva on the Stilfserjoch, only at the beginning of this week flew to Patagonia. The Italian women's squad is made up of Michaela Moioli and Raffaela Netto.

On Friday, the boardercrossers will start the qualifying run for the first World Cup race on Saturday in the Cerro Catedral ski resort on the approximately 1000 meter long route with jumps, waves and steep curves. The qualification for the second race follows immediately afterwards on Sunday morning. In the men's race, the 2 fastest runners qualify for the race; in the women's race, the 32 fastest starters qualify.

Because of the Olympic Games in February in South Korea, all major nations are taking part in the start of the World Cup, and with over 100 athletes (70 men/40 women) there is even a new participant record. In the men's race, Visintin is one of the favorites, alongside Alex Pullin (AUS) and Olympic champion Pierre Vaultier (FRA). In the women's category, Michaela Moioli has legitimate hopes of a podium place; Olympic champion Eva Samkova (CZE) and Lindsey Jacobellis (USA) are also favorites. The finals will take place on Saturday at 17 p.m. our time and on Sunday at 18 p.m.

The ski resort of Bariloche last hosted a snowboard cross world cup in Argentina in 2009, and for Cerro Catedral it is the world cup premiere.

The Snowboard Cross World Cup begins this weekend in the Argentine winter. There are 2 races on the program on Saturday and Sunday. The qualification is already on Friday.
