Christoph Mick narrowly missed the podium in Asahikawa

Christoph Mick, who made it onto the World Cup podium for the first time in his career at the parallel slalom in Bad Gastein in January, had just managed to get into the knockout phase in Asahikawa with his 15th time in qualifying, in which the face the best 16 athletes.

There he first eliminated his compatriot Aaron March in the round of 16 and the American Justin Reiter in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals he had to give way to the German Patrick Bussler. In the subsequent small final for third place, however, he was stopped by the Russian Stanislav Detko. Nevertheless, Mick was able to celebrate his second-best World Cup result of the current season in fourth place. For Roland Fischler, like March, the final round was in the round of 16. Edwin Coratti from Val Venosta, however, was already eliminated in qualifying.

Zan Kosir secured the victory, celebrating his first parallel giant slalom success of the current season. In the final, the Slovenian had the upper hand against the German Patrick Bussler.

In the women's category, however, the Austrian Julia Dujmovits prevailed ahead of the Swiss Julie Zogg and the Czech Ester Ledecka. The “Azzurre” Corinna Boccaccini and Nadya Ochner (Burgstall), however, were unable to qualify for the final.

There is also a parallel slalom on the program in Asahikawa on Sunday.
