Formerly a snowboarder, now a family

“Dagi” – that’s what Dagmar Mair was called under the Eggen in the snowboard scene. Her sporting success story is as long as her last name. The now 46-year-old from the Puster Valley finished 19th in her first World Cup race at the age of 8. In 1997 she won the gold medal in the parallel slalom at the World Championships in San Candido, followed a few months later by her only World Cup victory (parallel slalom in Sölden). “Dagi” was also able to fulfill her dream of the Olympic Games in 2002 – she took 9th place in the parallel giant slalom in Salt Lake City. Career ended at 28 years old There were also some setbacks (unfair treatment, banned overseas tour in the first World Cup year, low form...), and the youth also grew stronger. The 2003 World Championships on Kreischberg (with an 8th place) was to be her last highlight. At the age of 28, Mair ended her sports career under the harrows.

“It was an intense, beautiful time. The world title was of course the biggest thing. But I will always remember the athletes' entry into the Olympic Games in Nagano. Almost even more important are the many friends I have made in the 9 World Cup years,” reports Mair unter der Eggen. Rolli, Anna and Lorenz Dagi continued: “After I resigned, I switched off completely and did office work. I have been together with my partner Rolli since 2002, but we knew each other before then. In elementary school we were in the Boy Scouts together. A new, wonderful phase of life began. Daughter Anna was born in 2006 and then son Lorenz on January 25, 2008. It was exactly on that day that I won the World Championships gold medal in San Candido in 1997,” Dagi remembers.

The former world champion still hears rivals from her playing days. This is also the case for Marion Posch, two-time world champion (1996 and 1999 in the parallel slalom) from Val Badia, who also has two children: “But I live today and above all for my family. It's great fun to accompany Anna and Lorenz. I get on very well with Rolly.” Her children play sports. “Anna learned to snowboard in no time and was able to do both turns after just two hours. She is versatile and has and looks after a horse. She also sings in a rock band and plays keyboard. She was supposed to perform at the “Sondna Sound Festival”, but due to Corona it has been postponed to April 23, 2021,” says Mair unter der Eggen.

Lorenz also tried a few things. “Handball, football, alpine skiing, but his passion is clearly ice hockey. He trains five times a week, his coach is Armin Helfer – the former top defender,” reports Dagi. “If Lorenz didn’t ask me about my previous career from time to time, I wouldn’t even think about it anymore,” Dagi continued. The love of e-bikes The e-mountain bike is Dagi's new passion. In the mornings, Mair works under the harrows as a part-time secretary. Afternoon, evening and their free time belong to the family. “I also completed training as a swimming instructor, but now I am primarily there for the children. Especially in this year of Corona, it is important to accompany them. Sport is an ideal balance. It is completely irrelevant how good you become in the end. The most important thing is the joy of movement and health. Sport is the best school of life. After homework, I like to play taxi and accompany Lorenz to training. Anna is now self-employed and very busy. “She’s a lively guy, Lorenz is a more contemplative guy,” Dagi gives insight into their private lives.

Dagi tries to do a lot with the children – “also so that they are not tempted to sit in front of the computer for too long. We would all have been happy if a ski and snowboard season had been possible. Exercising outdoors is simply good for children,” she knows all too well from her childhood.
