This is what the snowboarders say at the start of the World Cup in Carezza

Benjamin Karl (winner, men): “I celebrated my last World Cup victory here in Carezza five years ago. It's an incredible feeling to finally be back at the top of the podium on this slope of all places. I would never have dared to dream of this result. This is one of the most emotional moments of my entire career.”

Ina Meschik (winner, women): “I still can't really understand it, this is my first victory ever in the World Cup. Things went really well today straight away. The piste was already in perfect condition in the morning. I took advantage of these good conditions and increased my confidence from run to run.”

Aaron March (8th place, men): “I am very happy with this debut. I was able to confirm the good training performance of the last few weeks in the race. After a slow first qualifying run, I had three really strong runs. In the quarterfinals I may have had a slightly slower slope, but that shouldn't detract from my opponent's performance.”

Christoph Mick (13th place, men): “I am very disappointed that I had to give up so early in front of my home crowd. Unfortunately, I had to struggle with difficulties right from the start, which now need to be analyzed. But I know that the form is right and that makes me very confident for the next races.”

Roland Filehner (19th place, men): “My disappointment is limited. After a difficult preparation phase, I can actually be happy with my current condition, but there were simply too many mistakes today. My long-term goal remains the World Cup in March and we have to work towards that.”

Gabriel Messner (31st place, men): “A dream has come true for me. I really didn't expect that I would make it through the first qualifying run on my World Cup debut. My first ride was almost perfect, but unfortunately I couldn't confirm this in the second round. But this doesn’t detract from my joy.”

Nadya Ochner (40th place, women): “Immediately after the race I am simply speechless. I slipped at the third gate, but at the moment I don't know what caused it. It’s particularly bitter to fail so early in front of all your friends and acquaintances on the side of the slopes.”

Elisa Profanter (27th place, women): “My goal was the top 16, but I clearly missed that. The beginning has been made, now we have to make progress on Saturday in Cortina.”
