The gondolas for the Carezza winners are ready

On Thursday, December 16th, the top stars of the scene will once again compete for important World Cup points on the demanding Pra Di Tori slope. For last year's winners Benjamin Karl (Austria) and Ramona Hofmeister (Germany), the organizers led by OK boss Andreas Obkircher have already prepared the winner's gondolas, which will be "handed over" to them in the run-up to this year's races.

It's not just in Kitzbühel that the winners can look forward to their “own” gondola on the Streif or on the Ganslernhang. This ceremony to honor the champions has long been a tradition in Carezza. And so two gondolas on the Hubertus cable car were recently decorated with the names of last year's winners Benjamin Karl and Ramona Hofmeister.

For the Austrian Karl, the victory in December 2020 was already the third triumph at the Karerpass, which is why the two-time Olympic medalist and five-time world champion is now the sole record winner of the World Cup classic in South Tyrol. “I'm very happy about that - also because the Pra di Tori is one of the more difficult slopes in the World Cup! The duels there are always extremely exciting and nerve-racking. But I love the area, the mountains and the Dolomites and winning there is always something very special,” says Benjamin Karl.

For Ramona Hofmeister, however, it was her first triumph at the foot of the Latermar last December, after the 25-year-old German took second place in 2017 and third place in 2018. “As far as preparations for this year’s races are concerned, we are fully on target.” OK boss Andreas Obkircher “We will prepare a small celebration for Benjamin Karl and Ramona Hofmeister, where we will hand over to them the sponsorship of the two gondolas of the Hubertus cable car in the run-up to the World Cup. How extensive this can be will probably depend on developments in the next few weeks,” explains Carezza’s OC boss Andreas Obkircher. Start of the season in Russia The 2021/22 Alpine Snowboard World Cup begins the Olympic season on December 11th in Bannoye, Russia, with a parallel giant slalom. After a parallel slalom the next day - also in the famous ski resort in Russia - the entourage moved to Carezza, where another parallel giant slalom is scheduled for Thursday, December 16th. World Cup points were raced for the first time on the Karerpass in December 2011. Since then, the South Tyrolean classics have become an integral part of the calendar of the International Ski Association FIS, where two top local athletes, Roland Filehner (2011, 2014) and Nadya Ochner (2018), also won.
