A 5th place might not be enough for March

It is more than questionable whether 5th place is enough for a ticket to the Olympics. After all, according to racing director Cesare Pisoni, he should have ended up on the podium in order to shake up the nomination list again. After qualifying, March was in second place: the Völser was strong at the World Cup in Carinthia. It was only in the quarter-finals that he had to admit defeat to the Carezza winner and later finalist Stefan Baumeister (Germany) by 2 hundredths of a second. Gabriel Messner from Villnöß celebrated a prestigious success. With 7th place, he delivered the best World Cup result of his career to date and was in the top 10 for the first time. In the quarterfinals against Nevin Galmarini (Switzerland), Messner made a small mistake, which is why he was around 78 hundredths behind at the finish. “Fish” in 3rd place Roland Fischnitzer was in a class of his own. The veteran from the Villnößer Valley made it to the semi-finals, where he was beaten by the eventual winner Tim Mastnak by a measly 8 hundredths. In the small final for third place, however, he lost out to Nevin Galmarini and was on the podium for the second time this season. Baumeister won the final over Mastnak. In the women's category, the Pole Aleksandra Krol was ahead of the Austrian Julia Dujmovits and Melanie Hochreiter (Germany) and Sofiya Nadyrshina (Russia), who crossed the finish line ex aequo in the small final. There was no Italian among the women. Who is going to Beijing? Many people are now asking themselves this question. In addition to Roland Filehner, Mirko Felicetti probably also has the ticket in his pocket. Edwin Coratti has the best tickets for the third ticket. Aaron March and Val Gardena's Daniele Bagozza are now worried about the fourth and final place - it will be interesting to see who the coaches will ultimately favor. Bagozza will probably be allowed to fly to China. If you take a look at the individual placements in this year's World Cup, then the man from Val Gardena was ahead.

The Italian rump squad showed off at the Snowboard World Cup in Simonhöhe. With Roland Filehner, a South Tyrolean landed on the podium, and both Aaron March and Gabriel Messner were in the quarter-finals. It will still be extremely tight for March in the race for the Olympics.
