It has now become a tradition in Carezza for the winner of the last World Cup race to receive their own, personalized gondola at the foot of the Rose Garden. This year, Ester Ledecká and Andrey Sobolev gathered at the Hubertus lift on the day before the season opening and popped the champagne corks in the presence of international media representatives. At the “gondola christening” the personalized cabins with the year of the winner, the name of the athlete and the country flag were ceremoniously inaugurated.

Ledecká and Sobolev took the opportunity to take a look at the nearby World Cup slope. “I'm happy to be here again. I feel particularly comfortable in Carezza,” said last year’s Russian winner. The 23-year-old Czech woman agreed: “This slope is steeper than any other. She has been training in South Tyrol since the beginning of the week in order to make the transition to the “Brettl” after her recent appearances in the Ski World Cup in Übersee and St. Moritz. “It’s routine for me now. I need three days of training before the automatism is back. Now I’m ready and can’t wait for it to finally get started.”

Before Ledecká and Co. start the season with the qualifying runs on Thursday morning, they have one more date on today's program calendar: at 18 p.m. the official opening ceremony and the starting number draw will take place in the marquee in the finish area at the Karerpass.
