Filehner makes a mistake: Now we need a little miracle

“Second place is enough for me,” Roland Fiwickeler said before the penultimate World Cup race in Scuol. The motto was clear: The 2-year-old wanted to make his dream of the first large crystal ball come true. But now he had to suffer a bitter setback in this project: in the parallel giant slalom in Scuol, Fiwickeler failed in the qualification and only took 38 World Cup points.

As a result, the veteran has to hand over the yellow jersey of the overall World Cup leader to Andrey Sobolev, who took victory and 1000 World Cup points in Scuol on Saturday. The Russian now has an 815-point lead over Fischnelller, who now needs a small miracle to secure the big crystal ball in the last World Cup race of the season on March 23rd in Winterberg. There was a little consolation for “Fisch” on Saturday: he was able to celebrate third place in the parallel giant slalom ranking.

Not a South Tyrolean day Sobolev won on Saturday against his Russian compatriot Dmitry Loginov, third place went to the Swiss Dario Caviezel. In the women's category, Milena Bykova, a Russian, also triumphed: she won the final against Ester Ledecka. The German Cheyenne Loch took third place.

The race didn't go as planned for the South Tyroleans: Fiwickeler, like Marc Hofer, was eliminated in the qualification, Aaron March came 14th, Edwin Coratti 15th, Daniele Bagozza 25th.
