Home victory! Ochner excels in Carezza

In the end, Nadya Ochner herself couldn't believe it: The South Tyrolean, who had yet to record an individual victory in the World Cup, experienced her finest hour at the home race in Carezza. Already in the qualification, Ochner indicated her good form, which she later confirmed impressively in the knockout phase and with which she finally made it to the final.

Not surprisingly, last year's Olympic champion Ester Ledecka was waiting there. In a close duel, Ochner couldn't be shaken off by the favorite and went on full attack - with success, as it turned out. Thanks to a wafer-thin lead of 0,22 seconds, the Burgstaller woman was able to celebrate her sensational victory at the finish - and not only FISI President Flavio Roda applauded, the whole of Carezza trembled.

This marks the end of a long South Tyrolean dry spell on the Pra di Tori piste: in 2014, a local athlete, Roland Filehner, took victory for the last time. Nadya Ochner finished third on the podium - her only Carezza podium until her sensational success this Thursday.

Among the men, a Slovenian cheers There was also a premiere for the men: The Slovenian Tim Mastnak confidently won his first victory on the Karerpass in a thrilling final against the Austrian veteran Benjamin Karl. For the 27-year-old, it was the second success of his career, after his first triumph in Scuol (Switzerland) in March of this year. Third place went to the Austrian Sebastian Kislinger. Last year's winner Andrey Sobolev from Russia had to settle for eighth place, followed by the Swiss Olympic champion Nevin Galmarini. Final stop: quarter-finals for Firiegeller & Co. Aaron March and Roland Filehner, who suffered a back injury, had to raise the white flag after convincing performances in the quarter-finals, but earned numerous World Cup points with their top ten places. Edwin Coratti from Langtaufer, who was on the World Cup podium five times last year, had to give up during the qualification. Daniele Bagozza from Ortisei narrowly missed the round of 18 in 34th place.
