Canadian and Belgian victories at the World Cup on the Alpe di Siusi

The conditions couldn't have been better - from the weather, which was once again at its best, to the perfect slopestyle conditions and the numerous onlookers who filled both the course and the finish area at the Laurin lift.

Best World Cup result for Simon Gruber

The snowboard semi-finals began on Friday morning, where Simon Gruber, the last remaining local hero, also took part in the action. It was all about one of the last four places in the final.

Gruber couldn't finish his first run cleanly and had to take full risks in the second run. He couldn't land his second jump perfectly there either and so he lacked the necessary speed at the end. The Aurer ended up in 14th place and thus achieved his best World Cup result.

The final decisions were made immediately afterwards. In the women's category, the favored Finn Enni Rukajarvi was able to prevail in the end, winning her second World Cup in a row after the Laax Open and becoming the new overall World Cup leader. Laurie Blouin from Canada and the Swiss Sina Candrian completed the podium.

In the men's category, the favorites once again dominated, with an exceptionally high standard overall. In the end, Seppe Smits (Belgium) was won by an athlete who already feels at home in the Seiser Alm Snowpark, as he often visits as a training guest during the season. With Jamie Nicholls (Great Britain) and Sebbe de Buck (Belgium) at his side, it was an already well-known winning photo.

Davide Boggio surprised

It is also pleasing that Davide Boggio achieved his best result in the World Cup with sixth place and was celebrated by the numerous fans. He certainly took advantage of the home advantage because of the fact that the Italian national team, the “CasaSeiserAlm”, has had its official training center in the Seiser Alm snow park since last year.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the freestyle skiers will take over the Seiser Alm Snow Park again to say a fitting farewell to the World Cup circus.

Seppe Smits and Enni Rukajarvi are the winners of the first-ever Slopestyle World Cup for snowboarders at the foot of the Sciliar. However, one of the beaming athletes in the finish area also included a local South Tyrolean hero.
