Nadya Ochner excellent fourth in Carezza - AUDIO

On Sunday, the Italian snowboarders forgot their disappointing performance from the previous day and brought five athletes into the round of 16. However, that was the final stop for Aaron March (against Nevin Galmarini) and Roland Filehner (against Dufour).

Christoph Mick from Welschnofen fared much better, making it to the quarter-finals and then having to admit defeat to the fastest person in the qualification, the Austrian Lukas Mathies. Mathies ultimately came third, but for 25-year-old Mick it was his best World Cup result ever. In 2011 he came 10th in Landgraaf.

In the final, the Frenchman Sylvain Dufour and the Austrian Alexander Payer faced each other. Before today's race, Payer had only reached the round of 16 in the World Cup. Today he surprised with an extremely strong performance and only had to bow to Dufour in the final. It was the Frenchman's second World Cup victory. He also celebrated his first in Italy, almost three years ago, in Valmalenco.

Caroline Calve wins again in Carezza

The Pra Di Tori piste also seems to suit Canadian Caroline Calvè particularly well. After 2011, she won her second World Cup race in Carezza today, and she also took second place in the giant slalom last year. In a very even and exciting final she defeated the Russian Ekaterina Tudegesheva.

Italy stayed in the race for a very long time in the fight for a podium place. Thanks to Nadya Ochner, who made it to the small final for 3rd place, but then lost to the German Sekina Jörg. Previously, Ochner was able to eliminate the Slovenian Gloria Kotnik in the round of 2011 and the Czech Ester Ledecka - fastest in the qualification - in the quarter-finals. Ledecka prevailed in the first round against another “Azzurra”, Corinna Boccacini. Ochner ultimately came fourth and equalized his placing from the XNUMX World Cup in Landgraaf.

The World Cup is now on pause for a month and will continue on January 10th in Jauerling in Austria with a parallel slalom.

Sylvain Dufour: “I risked falling in the final but was just able to save myself. The final run was extremely exciting, luckily I was just ahead of Alexander at the end. “To be at the top again after almost three years is a great feeling.”

Alexander Payer: “Today I qualified for the finals in the World Cup for only the second time. I didn't hope that I would get on the podium straight away, as my training performance in the last few days hasn't exactly been overwhelming. I’m not thinking about the Olympics yet, we have a very strong team in Austria, it will be difficult to qualify.”

Caroline Calve: “It was a very even final. The Pra di Tori piste suits me very well; I always feel comfortable here. This is also proven by the three podium places and two victories that I have achieved here in Carezza in the last three years.”

Nadya Ochner: “Everything went according to plan for me today. I'm super happy with the result, but of course I would have liked to get on the podium for the first time in my career. This 4th place is also important for me for the Olympic qualification, which is now much closer. I dedicate today’s victory to my grandmother, who celebrated her 77th birthday yesterday.”
