Next World Cup medal: Visintin takes silver

Emanuel Perathoner came up trumps on Friday and took bronze at the World Championships, now his teammate Omar Visintin has followed suit: The Algunder won silver in the mixed competition with Olympic champion Michela Moioli. A first for Visintin: The 29-year-old has never won a medal at a World Championships. “I have been waiting for this medal for 10 years. Now it’s finally here,” beamed Visintin after the race.

The Algunder and Lombardi survived the quarter-finals with difficulty (Visintin had fallen, but Moioli caught up strongly), but the semi-finals confidently. The final was evenly matched for a long time before the Americans Mick Dierdorff and Lindsey Jacobellis showed their claws and finally won the gold medal. Visintin/Moioli crossed the finish line in second place, while the German duo Paul Berg/Hanna Ihedioha finished third.

Perathoner misses second medal Emanuel Perathoner also almost won his second World Cup medal: The Laion native was in action with Francesca Gallina and, like Visintin, was in the final. But there the duo only had an ungrateful fourth place.

Curious: The FIS had scheduled the mixed competition at short notice instead of the women's and men's team competitions. It is hoped that it will be included in the Olympic program for Beijing 2022.
