Snowboard cross: Emanuel Perathoner on the podium

Emanuel Perathoner had to wait almost 6 years for his second podium in the Snowboard Cross World Cup; in January 2012 he came third in Veysonnaz. The World Cup got off to a rather bumpy start for perathoners; in the qualification on Friday, he only got his ticket for the race at the second attempt.

Things went better for the Laion native in the competition: in the round of 3 he was involved in a starting crash with 2 other runners, but made it to the quarter-finals in third place. In the quarterfinals, Perathoner benefited from a fight for second place, passed his competitors shortly before the finish and reached the semifinals. There, too, Perathoner was “only” in 4th place at the interim and 2nd place at the finish, thanks to a battle for position between his opponents. In the final, Perathoner again cleverly stayed out of the position battles. With a strong finish, the snowboard professional gained three places from the interim to the finish and celebrated his best World Cup result to date in second place.

With second place, Emanuel Perathoner has probably already secured the hard-fought ticket for the Olympic Games in February in South Korea - or at least has a hand on it.

The start of the World Cup didn't go quite as planned for Omar Visintin. The Algunder finished the round of 2 confidently in second place. In the quarter-finals, the World Cup winner collided with his teammate Luca Matteotti, of all people, and neither made it to the finish. The Azzurri's second best is Tommaso Leoni in 9th place.

In the women's race, victory went to Chloe Trespeuch from France, ahead of Lindsey Jacobellis (USA) and Nelly Moenne Loccoz (FRA). Raffaela Gross decided not to start after her fall in qualifying, and Michaela Moioli was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

The second World Cup race of the season follows on Sunday in Cerro Catedral, starting at 18 p.m. our time.

Snowboard cross: Emanuel Perathoner on the podium

Tailor-made season opener for boardercrosser Emanuel Perathoner (Laion). At the World Cup race in Cerro Catedral (Argentina), the 31-year-old fought his way to second place. Victory went to Alex Pullin from Australia, while Jonathan Cheever from the USA came third.
