Visintin is strong, but a podium is out of the question

The floodlit race in Cortina d'Ampezzo is one of the most spectacular races in the snowboard crosser calendar - even if the course is significantly shorter than usual at around 30 seconds. The speed is even higher, which makes the route dangerous. Because the temperatures were low that evening and the snow was very hard, falls were doubly painful. The Frenchman Merlin Surget celebrated the first World Cup victory of his career, while Jake Vedder (USA) and Leo Le Ble Jaques (France) took second and third place. The second women's semi-final caused a stir when superstar Lindsey Jacobellis and Stacy Gaskill were apparently hampered by an incorrect triggering of the starting gate. The grande dame of snowboard cross then left the finish area in a rage.
