Many of the previous Carezza winners and numerous journalists from near and far attended the “gondola christening”. The athletes popped the champagne corks and had their photo taken with their personalized booth. The organizers, in collaboration with the advertising printing company WDK, attached the winning year, the name of the athlete and the country flag. “My daughter noticed the gondola on our family ski trip at the weekend. I was amazed. This is really a great thing for me,” explained South Tyrol’s exceptional snowboarder Roland Filehner at the handover.

In addition to the local hero and two-time Carezza winner, all of the winners from previous years were represented, with a few exceptions - including the Japanese Tomoka Takeuchi, who came out on top in 2012. “I have been taking part in the World Cup for twenty years, but I have never been given such a great honor. I initially had to smile when I heard about the idea. “I love Carezza, not just because of the good snow, but also because of everything else,” said the experienced Asian, who will end her career after the Olympic Games.

The athletes took the opportunity to take a look at the nearby World Cup slope. “Although it rained a little, the slope is in excellent condition. The anticipation is increasing, it's really tingling in the legs," says Fiwickeler, who wants to be at the front straight away in the first race of the season: "It will be an initial assessment of where we stand. Of course you want to keep up with the best. Since this is my home race and one of the most prestigious events in the World Cup calendar, I obviously want to do particularly well.”

Before the qualifying runs really get down to business on Thursday morning, Fiwickeler and Co. still have an appointment on today's program calendar. The official opening ceremony and the start number draw will take place in the marquee in the finish area at 18 p.m.
