Is Italy's winter sports sinking into bureaucratic chaos?

While Markus Ortler was almost unanimously re-elected as South Tyrolean FISI President in July, the new FISI election at state level on October 15th in Milan promises to be very explosive.

The current president Flavio Roda, in office since 2012, is aiming for a fourth term in office. According to the famous Lotti law from 4, the term of office is limited to 2018 legislative periods. The fact is that Flavio Roda appears on the provisional list of presidential candidates. Together with Giacomo Bisconti (Tuscany Regional Association), Angelo Dalpez (Trentino), Alessandro Falez (Veneto) and Stefano Madifassi (Piedmont). An appeal has already been filed behind Roda's candidacy. Whether he will be admitted to the election will probably go up to the CONI arbitration tribunal; a decision will probably only be made a few days before the election on October 15th.

If Roda is allowed to vote - he has his sights set primarily on the 2026 home Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina - he will probably be re-elected with a large majority (in 2018 he received 79,1 percent of the vote).

If not, then Alessandro Falez (he is president of Sciclub 18 in Cortina d'Ampezzo) and Stefano Maldifassi (he is a five-time Italian skeleton champion) are considered favorites. 2 South Tyrolean board candidates The South Tyrolean regional association is represented by two candidates for the seven-member board. Because long-term board member Alfons Thoma can no longer be elected, the SC Auer club president, Christian Haas, is standing by. Lidia Bernardi, the president of SC Val Gardena, has stood for election to the board independently of the South Tyrolean regional association. Four years ago she narrowly missed out on joining the national FISI board - even though she was not supported by the South Tyrolean FISI board. There are a total of 2 candidates for the seven-member board.

There are well-known names among the athlete representatives: Irene Curtoni, Matteo Marsaglia and Verena Stuffer from Val Gardena, three candidates from the ski camp are available for two places.

The candidates among the coaching representatives for a place are 5: Mauro Baldo, Luca Bertagnolli, Carlo Dal Pozzo, Giorgio Scuri and Stefano Secco. The board of auditors will also be elected on October 15th. South Tyrolean clubs tipping the scales? The South Tyrolean clubs have an important role to play in the new FISI elections. They are ranked according to points depending on the strength of their membership, sporting successes and the organization of events. SC Gröden leads the South Tyrolean rankings with 400 points for the election, followed by SC Gsiesertal (340), the Seiser Alm ski team (330), SV Antholzertal (320), the Überetsch Unterland training center, RG Wipptal and Kronplatz ski team ( 310 each). A total of 120 winter sports clubs from South Tyrol are entitled to vote.
