Wierer & Brignone: 2 women ensure record ratings

Women have been setting the tone in Italian winter sports for some time now. So it's no wonder that at the last Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, all three gold medals were won by women: Sofia Goggia triumphed in the downhill, Michela Moioli was at the top in the snowboard cross and Arianna Fontana won gold in the short track. There's no question: Federico Pellegrino, Patrick Pigneter, Roland Fiwickeler & Co. also deliver fantastic results, but their popularity is not that great - at least in Italy. Only Dominik Paris can keep up with Brignone and Wierer.

An average of 384.000 people watched the women's relay on Saturday on Rai Sport, which corresponds to a share of 3,3%. At its peak there were over a million. Brignone's combination victory in Crans Montana was an even bigger crowd-pleaser. On average, almost 485.000 people did not miss “Fede's” slalom winning ride, just over a million represented the peak spectators. Eurosport speaks of 45.000 enthusiasts.

Wierer and Brignone have managed not only to attract the attention of the football-heavy newspapers, but also to arouse the curiosity of fans across the entire state.
