That was Olympic Tuesday

Italy has caught the curling fever: The “Azzurri” won the gold medal in the mixed curling competition. In the final, Stefania Constantini from Cortina and Amos Mosaner from Trentino prevailed against Norway (SportNews reported) . For Italy this meant the second Olympic gold medal at the Games in Beijing. At the same time, this was a historic medal: Italy had never before won a medal in this sport at a Winter Games.

Cross-country skier Federico Pellegrino won another medal for the “Azzurri”. The 31-year-old from Aosta secured the silver medal in the freestyle sprint. Gold went to Norwegian superstar Johannes Høsflot Klæbo. There are no South Tyrolean cross-country skiers taking part in the games in China.

Several South Tyroleans took part in the snowboard competitions on Tuesday. There were no medals to celebrate. Roland Fischler experienced a particularly bitter day. South Tyrol's ski speed specialists also remained without a medal. Gold in the Super-G went to the Austrian Matthias Mayer (click here for the detailed race report) . None of the Azzurri made it into the top 10. Domme Paris didn't get past 22nd place, Christof Innerhofer was eliminated (--> read the comments on s+) . Although there were no medals for South Tyrol's biathletes, Dominik Windisch at least impressed with a strong performance. The speedy ski hunter landed in 14th place when Quentin Fillon Maillet won. Lukas Hofer from Montal finished the race in 26th place (the detailed reports can be found here) .

The young figure skater Daniel Grassl from Meran was also in action on Tuesday. He showed a convincing performance in the short program ended up in 12th place.

Numerous South Tyroleans were on duty at the Olympics in China on Tuesday. Unfortunately there were no medals. Above all, the “Azzurri” had reason to celebrate with a historic curling medal.
