Successful start to the World Cup for the curling athletes

The South Tyrolean women's team had a better start to the World Cup yesterday than the men's team. With 5 wins against Austria (16:10), Belarus (23:3), Slovenia (26:6), Czech Republic (29:3), Finland (38:0) and 2 defeats at the start against Germany (8:20) and at the end against Switzerland (5:16) the women are an excellent second behind Germany (10 points) with 2,500 points and a grade of 13. “Our women played really well today and only lost the first and last game,” enthused Hans Mulser, who is responsible for the women’s team in Regen together with his wife Waltraud Mulser. For the South Tyrolean men's team, the World Cup started with 3 defeats, first against Brazil (5:17), then against Austria (6:24) and against Germany (13:17). Then came the big comeback. With 7 wins in a row against the Czech Republic (15:13), Australia (16:8), Finland (33:5), France (32:0), Russia (30:3), Switzerland (25:3) and Belarus (29 :3) the men fought their way from 9th place to 3rd place. They lost their last game against Slovenia 10:20 and thus slipped back to 5th place. “After three defeats at the beginning, we caught up well and were already third before we had to accept our fourth defeat against Slovenia,” said men’s specialist Matthias Elsler regretfully. 3 women and 3 men from South Tyrol can qualify for the individual final in the target competition today. Melanie Eder (Mölten), Nadya Dezini (Lana) and Karin Prast (Ritten) start in the women's competition. Jens Seebacher (Seis), Walter Hanni (Eppan) and Josef Aichner (Teis) are in action for the men. Today the women's World Cup premiere in the distance competition will also take place without Sonja Mulser.
